Tracy McMullan
A day in the life of the office mum at Complete Communication
What is your name?
Tracy McMullan
What role do you do?
One of my roles is within the finance team, specifically supporting our clients who receive Access-To-Work support. This entails assisting with timesheets and claim forms and ensuring clients remain within their allocated budgets. Access-To-Work support is provided to people who have a disability or a short/long-term health condition to assist them within the workplace.
I also support our students who receive support from university partners or Disabled Student Allowance (DSA) to provide support professionals to enable them to achieve their educational goals.
My final and most important role is as the office mother, ensuring everyone has eaten; I regularly bring baked items, such as cakes and biscuits, for everyone to enjoy.
I also introduced our regular tea/coffee stops, which has meant the company has gone from one pint of milk a week to now needing eight a week (do not tell management)!
Why did you choose this role?
The company directors suggested that this role would be the rewarding work experience I had been looking for… well, that and Daryl said I had to!
This role is extremely rewarding as I play a part in removing the stressful aspect of support that can be daunting for clients. In my finance role, I support our clients to take the pressure and challenges of paperwork away from them and to make the process seamless.
What do you enjoy the most about your role?
Knowing I can make the entire process as smooth as possible is the most enjoyable and rewarding part of this role. The clients have embraced this positively and are happy with the new routine to manage the administration of their support.
What are your favourite aspects of being part of the office team?
My favourite part of being in an office is the whole team are at hand to help in any way. Our office jokes are extraordinary, and a wide range of topics are discussed. The card games are a daily source of office hilarity.
What is your favourite moment/story from within the office?
When the Team had a cartwheel competition and took it very seriously, I am sure some of them thought they were in the Olympics. The next day when I heard the complaints of sore necks, aches and pains reassured me that not participating was a good idea.
If we partake in a board game that is a different story, I become an incredibly competitive player who loves to do a victory dance on winning.
Any tips or advice you would share to those who are in similar roles?
Office work is extremely rewarding, and the support we give each other and our clients is something to be proud of.
Being a team player and helping each other is the key to a great team, and it does help if you have an element of zing to get you through the day.
